Welcome

CardioBase - Cardiology Information System is an information system for cardiology service management.

The system manages the patient's clinical process from admission to discharge. It is possible to register examinations, consultations, and manage the entire hospitalization. This platform contains a scheduling service and waiting lists that manage all medical acts performed and to be performed at the Cardiology Service.

CardioBase is a system made with doctors, for doctors. It's totally flexible, and adaptable to the needs of your Service.

Core (Administrative, Statistics)

The CardioBase® system stores patients' demographics as well as their corresponding risk profiles. The data can be obtained automatically through the Hospital Information Systems (eg SONHO). In the tab of each patient it is possible to visualize their clinical history (examinations, hospitalizations, consultations, ...).

In addition to a set of base listings, all data entered can be analyzed and combined quickly and easily, allowing data to be obtained for clinical studies or performance indicators. This information can be exported to Microsoft Excel or other statistical data processing software (SPSS, SAS, etc.).

Internment and Intensive Care

The CardioBase® system inpatient module manages the clinical process of the patient in the Intensive Care Unit and in the Infirmary, having an active positioning in relation to the existing information (new clinical analysis warnings, risk scores, ...). The main features of this module are as follows:
  • Management of the complete hospitalization process (admission note, evolution and discharge);
  • Use of configurable diagnostic tables (compatibility with international tables and ICD9 / ICD10;
  • Intensive Care Unit (or Infirmary with updated diagnostic picture, bed information, and event alerts (download of analysis, exams, etc.);
  • Optimized data collection and visualization to support the diagnostic process and action plan;
  • Registration and transmission of the Acute Coronary Syndromes procedures for the SCA National Registry System of SPC;
  • Importation of clinical analysis data from the Laboratory of Clinical Pathology for hospitalized patients, keeping a history of the same and providing a daily chart of values;
  • Recording of complications with semi-automatic filing according to results of analysis results;
  • Medication control (entry and discharge) with automatic issuance of medical prescriptions (Electronic Prescription System certified by ACSS) using the Infarmed Drug Database, updated automatically;
  • Registration of Therapy and daily action plan, facilitated by the automatic calculation of dosages (for example: infusions from BMI) and generating the administration plan for the nurses;
  • Visualization of risk stratification through automatically calculated scores based on data entered;
  • Record of daily observations according to procedures performed

Complementary Exams and Diagnostics

The exams and procedures module allows the registration of complementary diagnostic tests:

Echocardiograms, ECG, Stress Test, 6 minute walk test, Holter 24h and 7 days, ABPM, Tilt table test and registration of Pacemaker procedures, ICD, CRTs, Electrophysiological Studies and Ablation, ICD and Hemodynamics (Coronariography, Angioplasty, Shunt and LAA Closures, Catheterizzation, Right catheterization, TAVI, TMVR, etc.).

The CardioBase® system connects with test equipment (eg Echocardiographs, ECGs, ABPM systems, Holter systems, Hemodynamic systems, PACS) allowing the sending and receiving of information (work lists, measurements, ECG waveforms , etc.). Whenever possible the connectivity protocols used are the HL7 or DICOM or alternatively numerous proprietary protocols.

Scheduling and Wait Lists

The Scheduling and Waiting Lists module allows you to manage exam appointments, elective internships, and appointments. This system interoperates with the Hospital Information System whenever possible.

Patients on the waiting list will be transferred to the calendar or appointment status and patients on the agenda will be transported to the medical act itself (examinations / hospitalizations / consultations). This module manages the type of medical act (examination, hospitalization or consultation), the doctor / team / room, the date of appointment of the examination / internment / consultation, the preliminary diagnosis, and the priority of the appointment.

In this module it is possible to obtain daily motion listings (daily diary summary), wait lists (for days, months, years) and other items to be parameterized. Confirmations / cancellations of medical acts can be sent to the DREAM system for the purpose of an effective integration of the systems.

Cardiac Imagiology

The CardioBase® Cardiac Imagiology Module allows registration of Computed tomography angiography (CTA), pre-AF ablation and pre-TAVI, Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR), stress CMR and pre-AF ablation CMR.

Hemodynamics

The CardioBase® Hemodynamic Module allows registration of catheterizations, right catheterizations, coronary angioplasty, angioplasty, shunt closures, left auricular appendage closure, carotid angioplasty, percutaneous valvular prostheses (TAVI and TMVR). In addition to the demographic data (which can be obtained from a Hospital Management System: SONHO, Glintt, etc.), the software allows recording of all the clinical data about the referred procedures as well as the material used in them (it allows integration with the module of Stocks of the CardioBase or with the systems StockScan, Glintt or ST + I).

The Hemodynamic Module also allows exportation of data from the examinations (Angioplasties) to the CARDS European Registry and to the National Registry of Interventional Cardiology of the APIC (SPC).

Arrhythmology

The CardioBase® Arrhythmology Module allows the registration of implantation of Pacemakers, CRT-P, CRT-D, CDI, Implantable Event Recorders, Electrophysiological Studies, and Ablations. The system allows patients to attend to in-person (remotely linked to programmers) or remote (direct and automatic integration with platforms of different device manufacturers) patients, allowing them to keep track of all documents and information in one place. The software allows for the recording of all clinical data referring to the mentioned procedures as well as the material used in them (it allows integration with the Stocks module of the CardioBase or the StockScan, Glintt, or ST+I systems).

The Arithmology Module also allows the export of data from Pacing deployments to a Clinical Register (EUCOMED format).

Web

CardioBase® Web is a module of the CardioBase platform that works in a Web environment and that includes 2 different functionalities:
  • Clinical Reports or ECGs
  • Orders / Schedules

The functionality of the Clinical Reports allows you to view the patient's medical history from the Cardiology Service at any point in the hospital, including all examination reports, external images (PACS), and ECG waveforms.

The Orders / Markings and Exam referencing allows you to order and / or make appointments for Cardiology examinations, depending on the existing permissions, which will automatically appear on the CardioBase® system, accessible through the Scheduling module. The referral data also automatically passes on the request / marking (risk profile, clinical presentation, etc.).

Access to CardioBase® Web can be done through a browser with login and password or through the Hospital Information System (SClinico, Glintt, etc.) with integrated authentication. The access settings are defined in each implementation.

Cardiac surgery

The CardioBase® Cardiac Surgery Module allows the registration of cardiac surgeries for adults and pediatrics (coronary, valvular, congenital and others). In addition to the demographic data (which can be obtained from a Hospital Management System: DREAM, Glintt, etc.), the software can record all clinical data referring to the referred surgeries.

The Cardiac Surgery Module also allows the export of data from surgeries to the National Registry of Cardiac Surgery (QUIP format).

Congenital and Pediatric

The CardioBase® Congenital and Pediatric Module allows the registration of Congenital and Pediatric exams and procedures:

pediatric Echocardiograms, congenital and fetal (with Z Scores calculations), Pediatric ECG, Pediatric Stress Test, pediatric 6 minutes walk test, Pediatric Holter and Pediatric ABPM.

It allows also the registration of hemodynamic procedures and pediatric catheterization, highlighting Right catheterization and Shunt closures of congenital pathologies.

It is also possible to register pediatric cardiology consultations.

Systems and devices interoperability is assured like it is present in other Modules.

Testemonials

The CHC Cardiology Department opted for a global solution, integrating all the modules of CardioBase, i.e. the modules associated with the hospitalization - Coronary Unit and Infirmary - and the Complementary Examinations.

The system has been operating since January 2008.

There was a great change in habits, which is not always easy, but gradually it became a routine to use.

We are also contributing to the improvement of the system.

This is, in my view, one of the advantages of this solution. It allows us to build a system that fits us and refine it over time.

I would say that these types of applications are essential for Cardiology Services that want to modernize and start preparing for the future.

Being an application developed by a Portuguese company facilitates its configuration to the realities and dimensions of each service.

Dr. Leitão Marques, Director of the Cardiology Department of the Hospital Center of Coimbra

CardioBase® is a database that makes it possible to have relevant clinical information available about patients in a hospital service almost immediately, anywhere in the hospital with a PC connected to the network, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

On the other hand, it produces high quality automatic reports, integrating automatic calculations and scores, which values the clinical information available to users.

Dr. Miguel Mendes, Director of the Cardiology Service, Hospital de Santa Cruz (CHLO)

CardioBase® standardizes the collection of clinical data and its passage to paper records.

It facilitates the consultation of information regarding hospitalizations / previous examinations to optimize the treatment of the patients.

It facilitates bureaucratic / administrative work to obtain data on the operation / productivity of the Service at any time.

It is a system that can manage in full and in electronic format the work of the Cardiologist in Hospital.

Dr. José Santos, Cardiologist at the Hospital Center of Setúbal

In the hemodynamic area it is extremely functional and flexible, constantly presenting innovations for the user and simplicity in data processing.

It emphasizes simplicity and reliability and adapts to each center.

It is an indispensable tool in the daily creation of clinical records and as a database of hemodynamics.
